2012 London Olympic Games 27 July - 12 August

London has hosted the Olympic Games on two past occasions, in 1908 and 1948, with a third scheduled for 2012. The planned 2012 Summer Olympics will make London the first city to have hosted the modern Games of three Olympiads. London is the only city in the United Kingdom to have ever hosted the Olympics; the United States is the only country to have hosted Summer Olympics on more occasions than the UK.

British participation in Olympic events, both as a competitor and as a host, is the responsibility of the British Olympic Association.

USA women's track runners Allyson Felix and Jeneba Tarmoh still have no ruling on dead heat at Olympic qualifier

American women finish tied for third with spot on Team USA on the line for London Olympics. The pair could face a coin flip or a runoff for final slot.

Allyson Felix and Jeneba Tarmoh (foreground) finish in a dead heat for the last spot on the USA 100M Olympic squad heading to London. They each lean across the finish line in 11.068 seconds.
EUGENE, Ore. - It took 11.068 seconds for Allyson Felix and Jeneba Tarmoh to run the women’s 100 final Saturday night.

It may take a week before USA Track & Field (USATF) officials resolve their rare dead heat and determine who will be the U.S.’ third female 100-meter representative in London.

“Everything I’m hearing is that no decision will be made until after the 200 meters,” said one high-level track and field official here.

The 200-meter final Felix is the three-time world champion and Tarmoh is a bona fide contender won’t be contested until next Saturday.

Carmelita Jeter, the defending world 100 champion, won the 100 in 10.92, followed by Tianna Madison.

The 22-year-old Tarmoh, a former Texas A&M star who just turned pro, finished in a dead heat with Felix, a 10-time world and Olympic champion and one of the marquee U.S. sprinters.

In a statement late Sunday night, the USATF said that that if neither athlete opts to decline her position on the 100 team, they will be given an option of a coin-flip or runoff.

If they don’t agree, a runoff will be held — certainly the fairest means of resolution. No timetable was given, but the most likely time for a runoff would be in next Sunday’s NBC telecast.

Ben & Jerry's Creates 'Lin-Sanity' Ice Cream Controversy

Ice cream company Ben & Jerry's has morphed pop culture with their frozen delights again. This time with NBA star Jeremy Lin.

Their latest flavor, "Taste the Lin-Sanity," being served in Boston's Harvard Square, is comprised of vanilla frozen yogurt and swirls of honey, but now comes with a side of a waffle cone instead of fortune cookies mixed in, after experiencing some backlash of being a racist connotation.

The Boston shop serving the ice cream issued an apology on Twitter for offending anyone by their handmade flavor, saying, "We offer a heartfelt apology if anyone was offended by our handmade Lin-Sanity flavor."

"We are proud and honored to have Jeremy Lin hail from one of our fine, local universities and we are huge sports fans," Ben & Jerry's continued in a news release. "Our intention was to create a flavor to honor Jeremy Lin's accomplishments and his meteoric rise in the NBA, and recognize that he was a local Harvard graduate. We try (to) demonstrate our commitment as a Boston-based, valued-led business and if we failed in this instance we offer our sincere apologies."

The manager of the Cambridge and Boston area Ben & Jerry's stores told the Boston Globe that although there was some negative feedback at first, the main reason they changed the flavor's ingredients was because a few of the limited edition pints were returned because the cookies got "soggy."

Lin has become an overnight sensation since hitting the court for the New York Knicks, filling in as point guard while others have been injured.

Lin played for the Harvard Crimson and graduated with a degree in economics before joining the NBA in 2010, according to ESPN .

"Taste of Lin-Sanity" is being offered for a limited time at the Harvard Square location only.
