Baseball, Cycling, Rowing, Sailing, and Motor Sport International Federations and Game Publishers will participate in the inaugural Olympic Virtual Series.
The Olympic Virtual Series (OVS), the first-ever Olympic-licensed event for physical and non-physical virtual sports, will be produced by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in collaboration with five International Sports Federations (IFs) and game publishers.
The OVS will begin on May 13, 2021, and will run until June 23, 2021, just in time for the Olympic Games in Tokyo. The Olympic Virtual Series will bring together virtual sport, esports, and gaming enthusiasts from all over the world in order to reach new Olympic audiences.
The Olympic Virtual Series will include the following International Federations and gaming publishers:
- World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) – eBaseball Powerful Pro Baseball 2020, Konami Digital Entertainment
- World Sailing - Virtual Regatta, Virtual Regatta SAS
- Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) - Gran Turismo, Polyphony Digital
- World Rowing - Open format
The OVS establishes a bridge between the physical sporting world and the virtual and simulation sports gaming communities, allowing people to interact with the Olympic Movement. Each IF will host its corresponding event in a way that maximizes online mass participation while prioritizing inclusivity and participation via the OVS. The mass-participation Series allows participants from all over the world to take part.
